JOHN: 2:4
This is a really interesting quote from the 2nd chapter of John- an understated, but profound quip that Jesus made to his mother. It perhaps not only showcased Jesus' authentic personality and sense of humor, but also the fact that he understood what he was ultimately going to do. While on a mission to save the world, Jesus still took time out to socialize and so when invited to a wedding at Cana in Galilee (weddings were week-long events back in the day!), he accepted. On the third day, his mother mentioned to Jesus that, (3) ..."They have no more wine", to which Jesus replied (sarcastically?) (4) "Dear woman, why do you involve me? My time has not yet come". His mother instructed the servants to do what Jesus asked of them. As it turned out, Jesus instructed the servants to go fetch jars of water. They did so and when the master of the wedding tasted the water, he discovered they had been turned into wine. In all likelihood, Mary was asking Jesus to perform a miracle, just to help solve a problem. He did, in a way that only he could. What is important is knowing, like Mary, that we can always trust in Jesus, no matter our circumstances.
